Communicative inclusion in teaching practice: analysis of barriers in the use of AAC
Dra. Marina Calleja Reina is Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaga and leader of the COMIN-ENIN Thematic Network, focusing on inclusive communication practices for people with rare diseases. Her aim is to identify best professional practices in this field. She obtained her PhD in 2000 at the University of Malaga, following a scholarship at the Centre for Educational Research and Documentation of the Ministry of Education and Science. Since 2001 she has been teaching Alternative Communication Systems, first in Didactics of Hearing and Language and then in Speech Therapy. She has participated in several research projects and is a member of the University Institute for Research in Multilingual Linguistic Technologies (IUITLM). Her work is reflected in numerous publications, contributing significantly to the field of inclusive communication, Augmentative-Alternative Communication systems and support for people with complex communication needs.

Prof. Sanja Tatalović Vorkapić
Full Prof. Sanja Tatalović Vorkapić, PhD, has been teaching all psychology major subjects at the Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Rijeka for 20 years. Sha has published 230 scientific papers, seven scientific monographs and nine manuals. She held numerous invited lectures. She led six projects, and now she is leader of two scientific projects. She was the Vice-dean for science, development and quality assurance in two occasions and now she is the main editor of scientific journal Educational Topics. She is the winner of the Award for the Best Scientist in Social Sciences in the ac. year 2013/2014. and the Award for Excellence in Teaching in the ac. year 2016/2017. She is the Head Office of the School Psychologist Division of the Croatian Psychological Association.

Prof. Dr. Heidi Schuhbauer
Prof. Dr. Heidi Schuhbauer is a full professor, who focuses on information systems at the Computer Science Faculty of the Nuremberg Institute of Technology. Her research areas include knowledge management, data analytics and e-learning. The main focus of her research in e-learning is on questions such as how the extrinsic and intrinsic motivation of students can be increased through design elements, such as gamification. Another focus is on finding ways to help disadvantaged students successfully complete their studies using digital tools. She is investigating how to integrate ethical aspects into teaching, especially with the use of AI.

Prof. Anat Shoseyov
Anat Shoseyov, Ph.D., Head of the English Unit at Kinneret Academic College, is an experienced English lecturer and educator who brings a deep passion for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and a wealth of teaching experience to her academic and professional work. For over two decades, she has taught English and was a pedagogical instructor, working with students of all ages through innovative and pragmatic teaching methods. Over the past ten years, Dr. Shoseyov has focused on training English lecturers and developing new EFL materials. Her academic journey and research are marked by a commitment to exploring new approaches to language acquisition and communication. Sergio Blanco is an Assistant Professor at the School of Civil Engineering (ETS de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos) at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. His academic work centers on advancing innovative teaching methodologies that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. In particular, he focuses on the application of service-learning approaches and the development of effective strategies for mentoring and supporting large student groups. Dr. Seynabou Seye, PhD in Educational Sciences, is Chief of the Division of Accounting and Investments at the Ministry of Education, Senegal. She specializes in educational planning, financial management, and inclusion policy, and is an author and international speaker recognized for contributions to education reform.
Dr. Ketevan Janashia
Dr. Ketevan Janashia is Head of the Central Scientific and Research Laboratory at David Tvildiani Medical University, Tbilisi. A PhD in cardiology (2002) with 25 years of experience, she researches psychophysiology of environmental and educational stress on the central and autonomic nervous systems, using HRV, EEG, and mental chronometry.
She has led and contributed to USA- and EU-funded projects, published 50 papers, and holds a patent awarded the “Silver Prize” at KIWIE 2021. Dr. Janashia serves on the University Academic and Ethics Councils, is an Associate Member of ISDS (Tokyo), and reviews for international journals.

Yenifer Rodríguez is a lawyer, specialist in Human Rights, and holds a Master’s degree in Education. She is a graduate and faculty member at the Nueva Granada Military University, Campus. Lantana Chipofya is a PhD candidate in Humanities Education at the University of Pretoria and a lecturer in English Didactics at the University of the Free State. Mr. Simon Laub
Simon Laub is a Senior Lecturer at Business Academy Aarhus, Denmark, where he teaches machine learning and artificial intelligence at the bachelor level. He holds a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics, with prior industry experience in AI projects including speech recognition and planning systems in healthcare and media companies. His academic interests extend to the study of natural intelligence and the human mind, which in recent years he has deepened through participation in conferences and summer schools such as Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s “Human AI” program and Bangor University’s (Wales, UK) “Visceral Mind” Summer School, focusing on cognition and emotion.
Mr. Nigel M G Middlemiss
He holds a Master’s in French and German from Oxford University and a drama teaching qualification from London University. His career began with the British Council, teaching English, linguistics, and drama in France, Germany, Finland, and Bulgaria. He also worked as a BBC World Service broadcaster and authored teaching materials for Oxford University Press.
He later built a distinguished career in communications, serving as director in the UK energy industry, programme director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and director of Echo Research Group, advising clients such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Microsoft, and the UAE. An experienced international speaker, he has presented at conferences across Europe and North America.
A member of the UK Committee on the Public Understanding of Science, he has published widely and speaks English, French, German, and Bulgarian.
Ms. Darja Pipuš
Darja Pipuš holds a BA in English and Sociology of Culture and has over twenty years of experience teaching English to learners of all ages. She has worked at the Research Institute of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana and is currently an English teacher and Erasmus+ coordinator at OŠ Gustava Šiliha Laporje. Her research interests include student wellbeing, digital stress, emotional intelligence, inclusive education, and addressing gender gaps in learning.

Mr. Aleksandre Ramishvili
Aleksandre Ramishvili holds an M.D. degree from Tbilisi State Medical University and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at David Tvildiani Medical University, where he also serves as an invited lecturer. His academic and research interests lie primarily in the field of human physiology, with a particular focus on understanding the effects of geomagnetic storms on human health. He is especially interested in exploring the functioning of the central and autonomic nervous systems, as well as investigating heart rate variability and its implications for overall physiological regulation. Through his research, Mr. Ramishvili aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how environmental and physiological factors interact to influence human well-being.

Tsai-Chun Huang acquired his Ph.D. from the Royal College of Art, London. He is currently an assistant professor in the School of Fashion and Textiles at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focused on the history of pleats and innovation in pleating technology.During his Ph.D. research, he was invited to worked with European art festivals, such as Hull UK City of Culture 2017, and the Prague Quadrennial 2019.
After joining The Hong Kong PolyU in 2020, his research expanded to a more movement orientation and focused more on the sport wear/ activewear design. In 2023, he received GRF (General Research Fund) from Hong Kong Research Grants Council to start his research. His latest activewear collection, Style in Motion, exhibiting in Paris in 2024, winning Gold prize in IDA (International Design Award), London Design Award, and French Fashion Award.

Dr. Adam Haisraeli
Dr. Adam Haisraeli is the head of the Department of Education in the Faculty of Education at the Kibbutzim College of Education and a lecturer in the School of Education at Tel Aviv University. He was a research fellow in the postdoctoral program at the Mofet Institute. His field of practice is the sociology of education, with a focus on Israeli society with regard to inequality in higher education, ethnicity and class, and centre and periphery. Dr. Ritwik Chakraborty
Dr. Ritwik Chakraborty holds a PhD in Textiles Technology from the University of Calcutta, India and presently works as a post-doctoral Research Associate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Udo Käser
Dr. Udo Käser is a dedicated researcher at the Centre of Teacher Training at the University of Bonn, Germany, since 2014. With a background in psychology, pedagogy, and mathematics education, he has contributed extensively to educational research and teaching. Previously, he worked as a secondary school mathematics teacher and held research positions in psychology and pedagogy. Kirsten Nielsen, PhD., MSc. Nursing, RN. Senior lecturer, study coordinator, and researcher at the School of Nursing VIA University College, Campus Holstebro, Denmark. Research focus is different ways of learning – especially nursing students´ learning, virtual learning tools including e-portfolio, globally networked learning, cooperative online international learning, curriculum development of the Nurse Education, qualitative research – especially narrative interviews. During nine years in the Danish health care system focus was nursing patients with medical diseases – especially patients with Diabetes mellitus.

Martina König, MA studied English/American Studies and French (teaching degree) with a focus on “Computational Linguistics” at Karl-Franzens University of Graz and graduated with distinction. Her extensive work and teaching experience in higher education as a senior lecturer in various Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs spans 24 years to date. Since 2017, she has also been the head of the part-time, postgraduate Master’s course “Technical Documentation”. In 2024 she was elected Vice-Rector at FH JOANNEUM. She was also recently appointed as a member of the INTED conference committee. Her areas of research and interests include university didactics, curriculum development, English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and Lifelong Learning.
Mrs. Sena Sayıcı
Sena Sayıcı graduated from Bogazici University, Foreign Language Education Department in 2017. She earned an MA degree in the same field from Istanbul Medeniyet University in 2023 with a thesis on “Communicative Orientation of EFL Instruction in Turkish Primary Classrooms”. She has been teaching English as a foreign language since graduated. Her areas of interest are TESOL and applied linguistics.

Ms. Shuyi Zhu is a Senior Editor (Professional Title) at the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, affiliated with Beijing Foreign Studies University, China. With over 20 years of experience in foreign language education publishing, she specializes in the development of English textbooks for vocational schools and colleges. Ms. Zhu has planned and developed multiple sets of nationally approved textbooks, which are widely used across the country. Several of the textbooks she has edited have been in continuous use for over two decades and remain popular today.

Kamila Szczepanowska is an EFL lecturer at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland, where she teaches specialized English courses and coordinates language projects. She holds a master’s degree in EFL teaching and is actively involved in CLIL, TBL, ESP methodology, and innovative learning approaches like flipped classrooms and blended learning. Karen Taylor serves as Director of Education and the Institute of Learning and Teaching at the International School of Geneva and Associate Professor in Practice at Durham University’s School of Education. Prior to moving to Switzerland in 2008, Dr. Taylor taught at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC and in the Liberal Studies Degree program at Georgetown University where she earned her PhD in history in 2000. Dr. Taylor’s research interests focus on eighteenth-century French pedagogical writings, Global Citizenship Education, Intercultural Learning, Inclusion and Plurilingual Education.
Dr. Efrat Gill
Dr. Efrat Gill is a psychologist and lecturer at the Department of Human Resource at Western Galilee College in Israel. Her interests include several fields: factors of academic excellence among students, and withdrawal behaviours in organisations and positive psychology. Dr. Gill has carried out several research projects that deal with the academic achievements of students, and particularly the factors that promote academic achievement among members of minority groups.
Dr. Lorena Perez-Penup
Lorena Perez-Penup holds a Doctoral degree in Advanced English Language Studies. Her academic journey has been enriched by prestigious awards, including the Fulbright (USA) and the Carolina Foundation (Spain) scholarships. Currently, she is engaged in a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Linz, supported by a scholarship from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Perez’s scholarly pursuits are focused on elucidating academic literacy development and enhancing teaching-learning processes within higher education.

Dr. Ariadne de Villa
Ariadne de Villa has a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Spanish language, culture, and gender from the University of Malaga, Spain, graduating with highest honors. Dr. De Villa has taught Spanish in the area of applied linguistics, Spanish for Healthcare and Business Professionals, Culture and Civilization of Spain, and Spanish Literature. Additionally, she also helped redesign the language curriculum at Texas Lutheran University, the Center for Language and Intercultural Communication at Rice University, North American University, and the International Language Center at la Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara. Dr. De Villa has presented at local, national and international conferences, has published articles in international journals, in both, the Spanish and English language, and is author of her recently published book, Introdución al estudio de la lengua española. She loves teaching and motivates her students to learn about the richness of the Spanish language and the diverse sociological aspects of these cultures.

Elisha holds degrees from National University of Ireland Galway (BA [Hons.] in Psychology), and University of Limerick (MA psychology). Elisha is currently working with children and adolescents experiencing mild-moderate mental health difficulties in primary care psychology as a psychology Assistant. Elisha has been working as a research Assistant with University College Dublin from 2019 to present (2024). She has worked on various research projects primarily surrounding occupational stress and the effects of such on mental health and wellbeing. More recently she has focused on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on essential workers and how it has impacted on their wellbeing. Black Excellence at a Price: African American Doctoral Students Experiencing Tokenism at Predominantly White Institutions in the United States.
Dr. Deniece Dortch is an Assistant Professor of Higher Education and Administration at The George Washington University located in Washington, DC. Her research and teaching grapples with systemic oppression across multiple axes. She uses critical phenomenological approaches to understanding how African American undergraduate and graduate students experience and respond to race and racism at predominantly white institutions of higher education. Dr. Dortch studies the socialization of undergraduate and graduate students of color. She is especially interested in how psychological violence and fear is experienced, manifested and reproduced in the academy. Her most recent projects explore intra-racial relationships, racial agency and their effects on persistence in higher education. Dr. Dortch earned her Ph.D. Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an Ed.M. in Higher & Postsecondary Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a M.A.in Intercultural Service, Leadership & Management from the School for International Training in Vermont and a B.A. from Eastern Michigan University.
